Philanthropy beyond borders: Raising funds abroad with Transnational Giving Europe

News from Fondazione Donor Italia

As more and more European citizens are willing to support international causes by making donations to foreign charities but there is no European free market for tax-efficient cross-border gifts, Transnational Giving Europe, the network that brings together 19 major European grant-making foundations, was conceived as a private initiative providing an efficient solution facilitating donations from abroad.

With the aim to promote to a large audience the TGE Network and its functioning, our TGE Italian partner, Fondazione Donor Italia has co-organised, in collaboration with AIFR Foundation, a free online webinar on the topic of “Philanthropy beyond borders”. The event took place on June 14, 2022.

During the event, Fondazione Donor Italia presented the mechanism and its potential, which is useful for the development of international fundraising. In addition, the webinar offered the testimonies of two TGE network member organisations: We are Here Venice and Università Bocconi.

We are Here Venice is an Italian non-profit organisation well-known around the world for its important work in Venezia.  It is accredited to the network as beneficiary since 2017. TGE is particularly useful for them in order to manage foreign donations quickly and efficiently.

Bocconi University is one of the main TGE beneficiaries of 2021. Originally founded with a big donation from Ferdinando Bocconi, philanthropy is in its DNA. Bocconi collects resources mainly for three activities: faculty and research, financial aid for students (scholarships) and the campus. The university uses TGE mainly for transactions with large donors, with individuals or companies living abroad where a philanthropic culture towards higher education is particularly advanced.

With no less than 83 attendees and 220 registered participants that received the video recording of the event and additional information about TGE, the webinar was a complete success.
